Hi, I am Kate France and I had the idea for Uniform Exchange on June 7th 2011 after watching a BBC documentary called Poor Kids.
This was a very moving and emotional watch and following the program I wanted to do something. I truly believe it was a God given idea and will be an answer to many family's needs. Even if it can help a little toward the financial burden that school uniform can be.

Wow the last 14 weeks have flown by!!!
We have seen so much happen, including me learning to build a website and use a blog!!
If it hadn't been for Kirklees Council liking the idea and putting me in touch with the National Children's Centre and the involvement and support of my close friends Uniform Exchange would never have happened.
Uniform Exchange has been really well received by everybody, initially I was really apprehensive and was n't sure if anyone would think it a good idea, how wrong was I! We have sent packs out to all the junior schools and Sure Start Centres; posters flyers and letters, many of which have donated uniform. We have also heard that a number of schools do their own in house uniform exchange, I think this is great.
We have had varying donations from areas of hudderfield, often finding that the less affluent areas have been donating more. I didn't expect this!
We have even had donations from a junior school in Wakefield, they decided to have a non uniform day and had to bring a bag of old uniform to school that day. We received over 200 items from them, this was a real boost for our store pile.
Media and community buinesses across Huddersfield have stepped up and suppported us. Putting us on their intranet, newsletters, tv screens, roadside advertising, notice boards, websites, information desks, eblasts, retweeting, forwarding on facebook, articles and monetary donations.
The Examiner really helped us early on and gave us 4 spots in the first paper that ran the story, plus we have just had a small article publised this weekend. Britania Rescue asked all their staff to bring in any a school uniform they had, we received 4 bin bags full!
National Childrens Centre, Kirklees Active Leisure, Volunteering Kirklees, The Cando Project, Kirklees Council, Document Solutions, Huddersfield Examiner, Huddersfield Christian Fellowship, The Co-operative group, Netmums, Pennine Families Magazine, Huddersfield Community Church, New North Road Baptist, Britannia Rescue, The Freecycle Group have all contributed to the promotion or donations for Uniform Exchange.
Over the next couple of weeks we will be putting in place the official referral system to access free school uniform, join us on facebook or twitter to keep updated.
I am sure that much more has happened that I have not mentioned, so i will update you again soon.
